Abstract


This essay takes the definition of open-source design as commonly understood in computer programming and applies it to recipes. Specific speculation about what recipes are, what they are like and how they work allows for a general reflection about culinary creation and leads to the specification of the components that make up a cooked dish and the act of cookin.
